Jacket illustration by Harry Schaare. Jacket flap price of $3.50 still intact. "Rackham Ballarol joins Nathan Bedford Forrest's command in Rome GA and makes two new friends. Previously while blockade running cotton to Nassau he met and befriended Kelsie a dancer who now has joined a circus in the Confederacy and provides the romantic interest. Rack has a big yellow cat named Colonel Turpentine who figures in the story. Rack and friends engage in cavalry raids, scouting, and spying in furtherance of the Confederate cause.
