Item description
Erle Stanly Gardner wrist watch he wore while in Ventura, CA
A one of kind, unique item. From the inventory of The Erle Stanley Gardner Museum, Ventura, CA
This vintage wrist watch is a true gem for any fan of Erle Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason series. The timepiece features an inscribed photo of the famous author in Ventura where he wrote the first two Perry Mason mystery novels wearing the same watch, adding a unique touch of history to this already special item. The watch is polished with a gold plated case material and was manufactured between 1930-1939, making it a true piece of vintage beauty. The brand is Waltham, a name synonymous with quality timepieces. This watch still keeps time and has Gardner?s original leather band and is sure to be a conversation starter and a prized possession for a collector or historian.
I have not taken this watch apart nor had it cleaned. It does keep time, however, after all these years.
This watch was amongst several other wrist watches that came out of the estate of Jean Gardner in Temecula, California.
It was the oldest of the watches and the one he wore while in Ventura, California practicing law, writing for the pulps, and the first two Perry Mason books. Included is the paper certificate of origin of purpose. Included is a photo of Erle while in Ventura, in which, I believe from the photo, shows him wearing this watch.
This item was part of the inventory twenty years ago of our Erle Stanley Gardner Museum which was located in Ventura, CA. There was no interest in the museum, and the objects and books are being sold individually.
