It doesn't have a tall crown as some hats from that era, and you can see how it fits me, with a 23" head... It is a "Mourning" hat, usually an all black hat like this was. But if added feathers or flowers you could get it out of that category. The crown is all silk,as well as the brim, and the brim does have some tiny holes in it if you look through it with light behind it. Invisible in normal use.
