Item description
94% Germination Rate
Grow Zones: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10
Deer Resistant, edible Nasturtium cress flowers are a cheerful sight and delicious in salads, entrees and any dish calling for pepper flavoring. Indeed, the seeds of this beautiful plant are used as a pepper substitute. To be honest however I would find it hard to pick these flowers off as they are such a beautiful sight to look at. The plant climbs and trails, can be planted in the rock garden or trellised through railings stemming from the garden bed. It is a great companion plant to vegetables because the roots won't choke out the other vegetables and the peppery oil wards off pests. This mix includes a charming variety of colors: yellow, red and orange.
Germination instructions: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours then sow seeds in permanent location (the roots are tender and do not make it well when transplanting later on). Likewise, preparing the soil by loosening it up really well is necessary so that the roots don't have to fight too hard to spread under the ground later. Sow seeds 1/2 an inch down. Keep seeds and soil moist during the germination phase. Germination takes place fairly quickly at up to 10 days.
Once germination has occurred the flowers will bud within 2 months and into late fall. If you are advantaged to live in a climate that doesn't frost, this climbing flower will be perennial for you!
