This fabulous large mug was produced in England during the early 19th century, circa 1822 to 1835. This fine Georgian ale mug was manufactured by the top quality English manufacturer Minton. The mug is so finely moulded, this is one of the best examples. The relief molded mug depicts Greek mythology characters. We see elderly ?Silenus,? companion and tutor to the young wine god Bacchus. They are exceedingly intoxicated and have the satyrs and a poor donkey to prop them up and help them on their way. The base of the mug features the ornate applied Minton pad with ?No. 16?. The attention to detail really is incredibly crisp. This is the perfect item for anyone who has a passion for early English ceramics, a fine example!
