Item description

100 Black Samson Echinacea angustifolia Seeds Narrow Leaf Purple Coneflower, petals are light purple to pink and with short and wide petals. the Black Samson is adapted to the northwestern Great Plains in lighter soils and dry climates. This perennial flower blooms mid-summer. Remarks : Other common name, "Blacksampson Echinacea". Echinacea is from the Greek word "hedgehog", a reference to the spiny bracts of the disk flowers. Flowers May to September. Adapted to dry soils of open, rocky prairies. The taproot can go down five to eight feet, allowing it to survive periods of extended drought. The root of this plant contains pain-reducing compounds, chewing a small portion will numb the tongue. Native Americans used this plant to treat toothaches, sore throats, mumps, and burns. Black sampson was also used for treatment of distemper in horses.
