Item description
Antique Vegetable Serving Bowl, Floral Pattern
Corn Cob Bowl, Discoloration Under Glazing
This is an unusual piece. I considered not even listing it, but as I studied and researched it closer, I think it might have an interesting tale to tell. The simple floral pattern makes me think it may be Bavarian artwork, but what's amazing is that the discoloration does not appear to have occurred from use but is perhaps a flaw in the manufacturing process. The discoloration is all underneath the glazing.
There are no breaks or chips in the piece, but there is a great deal of crazing. The plate which was probably used as a vegetable serving bowl or even for a piece of corn on the cob measures 9 x 5 " and stands about 1 inch tall. Weight is 7 ounces.
There is not a trace of a marking on the bottom which only serves to make this dish even more intriguing. Usually older China was at least marked with the name or logo or the maker.
Why not take a gamble and see what you can learn about this mysterious piece. It could be more valuable than it looks.
