Item description
Lyutsian Prigozhyn (1926â??1994) â?? the petersburgian composer, graduate of the Petersburg (Leningrad) Conservatoire (1951), where he studied at of V. V. Shcherbachyov and Yu. A. Kochurov, later serving there as a professor. His creation is diverse, embracing the opera and ballet genres, radio programmes for children, symphony scores, concertos, oratorios and cantatas, chamber-instrumental compositions, vocal cycles, choruses, theatre music. Prigozhyn is the true representative of the generation to have manifested their main objective stated by the historic period itself. That was the ethic self-determination of the creator. Therefore this great purport was expressed by Prigozhyn in his large-scaled canvases based on distinct conceptions. Among such profound compositions are the instrumental symphony, concerto, quartet, oratorio and cantata (â??Damnation of the Atridesâ? after Aeschilles, â??Discourse of Igor's Campaignâ?, â??From Horatioâ?, â??Grieves of the Prophetsâ?, chamber cantata dedicated to Shostakovich's memory â??The Sun and Stonesâ?). Among the authors of the verses are anonymous old Russian and ancient Grecian poets, so as Shakespeare, Pushkin, Blok, Marshak, Chukovskyâ? The Quartet No. 4 for strings was created by the composer in 1987.
