This ANTIQUE, VINTAGE, Hand-Painted, Marked "Japanese Figural Hand Painted Wood Mr Man Male Salt Shaker Bottle Opener Mrs Woman Female Lady Pepper Corkscrew Wood Set" was made in Japan in the mid-1920s. Purchased by my neighbor's Uncle while working as a Doctor in Japan during 1927, the bottom of both pieces are marked "Japan". With age appropriate paint wear - the owner seems to have been a Beer drinker as the wear to the Salt Shaker Bottle Opener is much more extensive than the wear to the Pepper Shaker Corkscrew Wine Bottle Opener - they have NOT been cleaned and the Pepper Shaker Slide is stuck. Otherwise, they are in VERY GOOD Condition with NO marks, stains, chips, cracks, odors or additional damage; the Original wooden display stand is missing. With a diameter of approximately 1 1/2 inches, they stand approximately 4 inches tall and both the Bottle Open and Corkscrew are fully functioning. Hand-painted with a Cute design, this set is quite KITSCHY and full of character! With hand-painted faces with animated expressions, both Mr. Salty and Mrs. Peppy are accented with hair and have a charm that is quite old world. The paint is mildly worn on the man but the colors on both are still FABULOUS and BRILLIANT. Crafted by an experienced artisan, this Set will stand out in any room or on any Bar, making this interesting set a conversation piece.
