Antique Hand Crafted Carved Wood Dutch Man and 46 similar items

My neighbor has been cleaning out her parent’s home and discovered this UNIQUE Couple in a box that contained her mother's childhood doll collection. They are ANTIQUE, Hand Crafted "Carved Wood With Composition Faces Wooden Jointed Man Male and Woman Lady Husband and Wife Couple Dolls Marionettes" made in Holland around 1906. Of Dutch descent, they were a gift from cousins visiting from Holland and handmade especially for her. These AMAZING pieces of Folk Art have been safely and securely stored and are in EXCELLENT Condition for their age. The glue holding the Woman’s hat to her head has dried and the hat is partially off, with the original paint stuck to the inside of the hat – EASY to repair and invisible “as is” when displayed. Otherwise, their condition is EXCELLENT with NO rips, tears, marks, stains, odors, chips, cracks or other damage; they come from a smoke-free, pet-free home. It is possible that these Dolls started life out as a Marionettes but I can NOT be sure! Standing approximately 6 1/8th inches tall, they both have jointed wooden arms and swing jointed, movable legs with flat wooden clog shoes and composition faces. Wearing traditional Dutch Style clothing that was sewn on an early-20th century sewing machine, they have amazing molded facial details with hand painted accents. These Dolls are typical of turn-of-the-century Dutch Marionettes with and are DELIGHTFUL! Wearing the traditional dress of a married Dutch woman, she has painted black eye brows, painted blue eyes, rosy cheeks and red painted lips. Molded with strongly defined facial features, a pert nose, defined eye sockets and closed mouth, she has a Dutch Cap Hat over her painted hair. Her block wooden torso has dowel joint arms and swing jointed legs, with her hands being primitively carved without fingers and her wooden clogged feet being flat like a Marionette's. She is wearing a multi-layered folk costume that consists of a brown blouse with a lacy panel around the neck, a striped tan skirt, and a brown apron with a lacy panel waistband. The man is wearing the traditional clothing of Dutch Man. He has painted black eye brows, painted blue eyes, rosy cheeks and red painted lips. Molded with strongly defined facial features, pronounced nose, defined eye sockets and closed mouth, he has brown painted hair covered with a black winter cap hat on top and a black knit scarf muffler tied around his neck. His block wooden torso has dowel jointed arms and swing jointed legs, with his hands being primitively carved without fingers and his wooden clogged feet being flat like a Marionette's. He is wearing a multi-layered folk costume that consists of a black shirt, a brown jacket, and black pants. This is a RARE and highly-characterized set of hand-crafted dolls with fine original costumes and EXCELLENT Condition, given their age.
