Item description
10 Seeds Orchid Tree Bauhinia Variegata
The Orchid tree is a deciduous tree that bears large, stunningly beautiful pink and purple flowers that resemble the blooms of orchids. The flowers have 5 spreading petals and are delightfully fragrant. It has a rounded, spreading form, leaning or crooked trunk and arching, cascading branches with large, 2-lobed leaves. It flowers in the spring after it drops its leaves and it also has flowers on leafy branches throughout the year. This spectacular display makes orchid-tree a favorite for specimen and street-tree plantings. It is easy to grow and likes well-drained soil and full sun. Tolerant of light frost and is grown in tropical and subtropical regions throughout the world. Also known as mountain ebony for its hard, dark brown wood. Parts of the plant re used medicinally and as fodder for cattle. Has a fast growth rate and grows 20 to 40 feet in height with a 20 to 30-foot-spread.
Growing Instructions
1. Prepare a mixture of half potting soil and half sand, perlite or vermiculite. Put the mixture in a pot with drainage holes in the base.
2. Water the mixture so that it is moist but not wet.
3. Put the seeds on the soil.
4. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil.
5. Water the seeds.
6. Place the pots in an area with warm temperatures in full sun or part shade.
7. Water them regularly so that the soil does not dry out.
8. When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted.
