Item description
Old and from an ESTATE SALE out of Newark Ohio. (the same state that CAC started in) Very early Christensen Agate Co. "HANDGATHERED" marble.
Quoted from Marble Collector's Society of America...
"From for at least a short period of time early in the company?s history, marbles were hand- gathered prior to the implementation of a feed system. We have found opaques, slags, swirls, and cobras that exhibit hand-gathered ?9?s and ?tails?.?
One of the hardest Christensen Agate to find is called the Handgathered. These are found in single or two-color. They exhibit a distinct ?9? and tail pattern and are the earliest Christensen Agates produced.?"
You can clearly see the "9" as well as the tail. It is a very old marble and has some impact areas which shows its age and history. It appears that it was never glazed. I believe that it has a pontil as well as seen in the second picture.
7/8" in diameter
I have been told that this may be an kro agate EXPERIMENTAL as well. Please use your best judgement.
I bought a great marble collection from this same ESTATE SALE and will be listing them all. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER MARBLE LISTINGS AS I WILL COMBINE SHIPPING IF YOU BUY 5 OR MORE AT THE SAME TIME. Some look to be very rare as I have never seen any with these designs. They are of varying sizes.
Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks
