Item description
The Smith Family Pictorial Biographical. A vintage, single edition newsletter-style publication from the 1980s by Family Publications. Primarily intended for young people and beginning genealogists who want to know a little bit more about their surname, and to foster pride in their roots. No family lineages or indepth research of various family lines are provided. Measures 8.5 x 11. Contains 16 pages printed on brown paper. Contains photographs, drawings, articles and stories about important people and places that bore the name. In addition, a special section is devoted to the historical roots of the surname itself explaining how it came to be. The Smith Family edition features a cover story on Captain John Smith. Get the real story on his relationship with Pocahontas. Other prominent bearers of the name who are profiled include: Declaration of Independence Signer James Smith; Maine Senator and Anti-McCarthyism Hero Margaret Chase Smith; the infamous horse stealer Peg Leg Smith; Author Adam Smith; New York Politician Alfred E. Smith; Confederate Major General Edmund K. Smith; Explorer Jedediah Smith; American Pioneer and Soldier Col. James Smith; Samuel Francis Smith who wrote the patriotic hymn "America"; Mormon Church Founder Joseph Smith; Entertainers Kate Smith, Bessie Smith, and Gladys Smith who was better known as Mary Pickford, America's sweetheart of the silent screen. The town histories of such places as Smithfield, North Carolina are also included. And check out an organization just for people who happen to be named Jim Smith.
