The SHANGRI-LAS were an American pop girl group of the 1960s. Between 1964 and 1966 they charted with often heart-breaking teen melodramas and remain known for "LEADER OF THE PACK" and "REMEMBER (Walking in the Sand)". The group was formed at Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, New York City in 1963. It consisted of sisters Mary Weiss (lead singer) and Elizabeth "Betty"Weiss and idential twins, Marguerite and Mary Ann Ganser. The girls often appeared as a trio as Betty Weiss rarely appeared on stage until late 1965, preferring to avoid touring. ARTIE RIPP arranged the group's 1st record deal. Their 1st recording was "Simon Says". They also recored "Wishing Well" / Hate To Say I Told You So" which became their 1st release in early 1964 under a small Spokane label.
