Item description
About the item:
This stunning, hand-drawn recreation of the entire 5-page story "The House on the Hill" (May, 1952) features the work of comics legend Vic Carrabotta, one of the last remaining artists from the Golden Age of comics. It was his first job at Atlas Comics (later to become Marvel) and, according to Carrbotta himself, the story is by Stan Lee. The pages each measures approximately 11 by 17 inches, are in excellent condition, and will be shipped with the utmost care. They are all also signed by Carrabotta. Please note- this is an actual, original hand-drawn recreation of the full five-page story by Carrabotta, recreating his very first published story for Atlas Comics. The story is not a copy, print, or pre-printed image- it is a hand-drawn original! Please further note- all of the text, the story title, lettering, etc., is also all done by hand by Carrabotta. No stats are used- it has all been done by hand by the artist. The cover to the comic this story appears in is shown for reference but please note that it is not included in with the listing. The listing is for the original artwork only and the cover is merely shown for reference.
About the artist:
Legendary artist and Marine Corps veteran Victor ?Quick Vic? Carrabotta began his artistic career during the Golden Age of comics. An accomplished illustrator and artistic director, Carrabotta is a graduate of what would become the School of Visual Arts in New York. When he applied for a job in comics, Jack Kirby politely sent him on his way but, showing him to the door, found Vic?s expectant wife awaiting her husband?s return. Unable to turn the father-to-be and unemployed newcomer away, Kirby sent the young artist with a note to Stan Lee, who gave Carrabotta the five-page story ?The House on the Hill? for Atlas? Astonishing #13 from 1952. From this humble beginning, he began a long and illustrious career in the creative arts that spans seven decades. His comics work spans everything from horror and science fiction to Westerns and mystery. Later career highlights include original design concepts for Disney movie posters (on 101 Dalmatians and Pirates of the Caribbean), development and direction of marketing campaigns for such diverse customers as Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, AT T, Readers Digest, and Mother Earth News. His storyboarding and conceptual artwork include such recognizable accounts as Advil, Jell-O, and Kenner Toys. His most enduring legacy, however, remains his comic book work as one of Stan Lees go-to artists at Atlas Comics (later Marvel) for such classic series' as Journey into Mystery, Kid Colt Outlaw, Marvel Tales, and The Rawhide Kid, among many others. So swift and sure was Mr. Carrabottas hand at sketch and rendering, he quickly earned the nickname he bears to this day: Quick Vic.
