Salicylic acid is also found in unripe fruits, as it is part of their development process. This natural compound is used to treat a variety of skin problems from acne and calluses, to seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis. Salicylic acid is probably most well-known for its acne-fighting and exfoliation. Why is it such an effective treatment for acne? Acne is caused by a bacteria called propionibacterium acnes, and this bacteria thrives when the pH of your skin goes up.
