Item description
Great find at a recent estate sale. We debated on whether or not to clean and finally decided to take the time and do so. The only thing we did not do is take the badge apart and clean the inside plastic to make it more readable. We were afraid we would damage it in the process. We did take a front and back photo before cleaning. We think it improves it but we understand those that prefer the patina.
This employee badge was for Century Electric Company in St Louis Missouri, an electric motor manufacturer organized in 1900, incorporated the following year. The first Century Electric shop, with its force of three workmen, was in an old church at 1011 Locust street.
This employee badge possibly dates to 1929 as indicated by the first two numbers in the badge sequence. Unknown who it belonged to but perhaps one of the first 12 employees would be a supposition.
Our understanding is the name Century Electric is still in use but not by original owners. Now owned by A O Smith.
Very cool piece of electric history and St Louis MO history. Please note the pin does not release from the back. I?m sure someone can figure out how to fix but it?s beyond our abilities
Will ship USPS with tracking to winning buyer
