Elagabalus? name is not quite as notorious as that of Nero Caligula, or even Commodus. Like the three emperors mentioned above, Elagabalushas consistently been ranked among the worst most depraved holdersof the Imperial honor. His reported atrocities crimes however almost entirely fall under the categories of upsetting the gender, cultural religious norms of Roman society.
Billon Tetradrachm 26mm 12.86g. Struck c. 219 AD. Emesa or Carrhae Mint.
Obverse: A?T K M A ANTWNEINOC CEB, laureate head right, drapery on far shoulder.
Reverse: ?HMA?X E? ??ATOC TO, Eagle standing left, wings spread, head left and tail right, wreath in beak, ?-E either side of head; star between legs.
VERY RARE ONLY 7 Unlisted Reverse type in Prieur--none feature the eagle left or slightly left with head left an tail right. All have head right and tail left.
