International DeMolay Cordon, April, 1934, and similar items

The Great Depression of 1929 halted publication but it reappeared as “The DeMolay Cordon” in 1932 in tabloid (newspaper) format measuring 15-1/2” x 10-1/2.” The subscription rate for 10 issues was $1.00. In 1935 it changed to a 16-page magazine format, and cost 50-cents a year for 10 issues. In 1938 publication was halted, but it began again in September of 1941 as the “International DeMolay Commentator” in a 16” tabloid format, with ten issues a year sent to all members, because it was sponsored by the International Fraternity House—the only organization authorized to create and sell DeMolay jewelry and regalia. But by January of 1942, the United States was at war with Germany and Japan, and publication stopped from 1942 through 1949. DeMolay International is a fraternal organization for young men aged twelve to twenty-one. Founded in 1919, the group is directly associated with the Freemasons. The organization was named after Jacques de Molay, the ill-fated leader of the Knights Templar. DeMolay works to help young men build character and become leaders in their communities. Members advance through the program within their local chapters, which are sponsored by a Masonic lodge. DeMolay International has chapters in North and South America, Europe, and South Africa.
