Item description
Bronze and enamel orthodox religious crucifix cross icon, iconography of the Benedictines of Chevetogne. Measures 4" x 6-3/8".
This Cross shows the Ancient of Days (at the top; cf. Dan. 7), the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, angels prostrate in adoration, Christ crucified, the lance and the sponge (on the stem of the cross, to the left and right of Christ), Jerusalem (on the lowest branch), Golgotha with Adam's skull.
Inscriptions: King of Glory, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, Son of God, Jesus Christ (Greek abbrieviation), We adore thy cross, Master, and we glorify thy holy Resurrection, Victory, Lance, Sponge, Golgotha, Adam's Head, initials of: The Place of the Skull has become Paradise, on the halo, three Greek letters forming the works "ho on": "He who is".
