The Venus flower basket is a type of glass sponge that is found primarily in the deep waters of the Pacific near the Philippines. They build their skeletons out of silica, which forms a unique lattice structure made up of spicules. Just as other sponges, they are filter feeders. Their spicules form a very fine mesh, giving the Venus flower basket a rigidity not found in other species of marine sponges. They would make a great ocean or beach themed decor or a conversation piece.
