There is an AC adapter that plugs into it and the other end into an outlet. On one of the sides of the base, there is a switch for "Off/On/Audio." When the plasma globe is turned on and plugged in, electricity floods the globe. You can then put your fingers on the globe and the electricity goes to your fingers. There are scratches/scuffing from use and storage. It does work. Comes from a smoke-free and pet-free home.
