Linly Heflin Unit was founded I 1919 as a women's service organization. In the earliest days, Linly Heflin rolled bandages for World War I soldiers, and assisted at Children?s Hospital. Since 1923, the focus has been to further the education of young women in Alabama by funding partial college scholarships for women attending Alabama colleges and universities. To this day Linly Heflin remains 100% volunteer based with no paid staff and extremely low overhead. Over the years Linly Heflin has been able to increase the size of the scholarships and the number of scholarships they award. In the 2019-20 school year, they supported nearly 100 women and gave away approximately $700,000 in scholarships. Since 1923, they have funded more than 3,000 scholarships totaling around $6,000,000.
