The item is made of metal, with a worn silver plated finish. The item has an indentation at the top. I would guess this base might have held a glass insert bowl at one time for a candy dish, compote, or a bride's basket bowl maybe (which is no longer present). The items are made by: Rockford Silver Plate Company (see photos). The item is antique and looks to have a Victorian era Aesthetic Movement style (see photos and determine the maker, the age, and the origin). The item measures in total about 6.5 inches high, and it is about 5.5 inches wide from side to side at the top. The item has some wear to the silver plated finish, some scuffs, and a missing top glass portion is likely (see photos and / or written description for the condition of this item).
