Item description
MICKEY MANTLE: THE INDISPENSABLE
YANKEE
by Dick Schaap
Sports Magazine Library #5
Bartholomew House, Inc., 1961
First Edition, First Printing
Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine
One of the baseball greats is profiled by a noted sportswriter. This original paperback isn't really Mantle's "Life Story", since it was written following the 1960 baseball season. Mantle stayed with the Yankees until 1968, and some of his best years, including 1961 (the year the book was published), were yet to come. Still, this is a great account of his first decade in pro ball, as well as his earlier career. Includes the Mick's statistics through 1960. The book shows little wear (principally, light edge wear and a light reading crease, plus a slight bump to a few page edges), is unmarked and has moderately tanned pages. Most copies described on the Web seem to be quite worn, so the title is pretty scarce in this kind of collectible condition.
