Item description
A satirical collage titled "Christina Removed for Observation" by artist Barry Kite. Signed in pencil on the bottom right, with the title mid bottom, and dated 1995 bottom left. Inspired from one of the most recognized paintings of the mid-20th century by Andrew Wyeth "Christina's World" in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). Kite took the scene in the painting with the old farmhouse in the field, yet this serene scene is intruded with a modern-day ambulance taking the figure Christina away. Wyeth's painting is often perceived as hopeful and serene, but Christina suffered from a muscle condition. Kite makes a nod to this truth in his collage, which brings an element of wit for art history connoisseurs. From a private collection. Dimensions: 17"h x 21"w (framed). In very good vintage condition. Barry Kite received his B.F.A in Film from UCLA and then spent five years traveling overseas, including two in Japan. He returned to San Francisco Bay area where he wrote and performed his own style of surreal poetry in local coffee hours. Renewing his interest in collage, he combined photographic and hand-coloring techniques to create the foundation of his current work. The exclusive use and alteration of found imagery is a natural extension of found poetry and the basis for what he considers his visual poems or "single frame films." Barry Kite's style of social and political parody via the "re-positioning" of art historical and contemporary media images has won him several art competition awards and placed his work in numerous private and corporate collections.
In great condition. Comes out of the estate of a collector.
