Item description
#JANAZKA
Trailing pacific blackberry, also called California blackberry, or Pacific dewberry, is an fast growing vine that grows throughout the Northwest from the Cascades to the Pacific Ocean.
Morphology:
This species is classified as an evergreen, low growing vine, with trailing stems that can extend outwards up to 10 or more feet in length. Its slender stems bear alternate, compound leaflets (3 to 5 leaves). Leaves are ovate, lobed and doubly serrated, 1.5? to 3? in length, and dark green above and paler below. The stems are covered with thorns, which are easily detached.
In the spring flowers form on second year canes (floricanes). Flower petals are narrow in width, white to pink in color, and are 1?-2? across. During the summer flowers give rise to black, sweet, juicy one-half inch long delicious fruit.
Adaptation:
Widely adapted to both sun and shade conditions on all soil types. Best to tend to this one well to avoid spreading as it can become invasive if left to it's own devices. Trellising works well.
