He visited notable places and cities like Niagara Falls, Chicago, Dakota Territory (this was 1883), the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Portland, St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. He was present at the "last spike" ceremony of the Northern route at Deer Lodge valley, Montana on September 8 (he was invited). Has 39 monochromatic illustrations plus a frontispiece of the author.
