- Western Or No Leaf Sunflower. Western Sunflower has yellow star-like flowers held up on leafless red stalks two to three feet tall. The shortest of our perennial native sunflowers. These are also called ?No Leaf Sunflower? because most or all the leaves are clumped near the ground. Helianthus occidentalis won?t spread aggressively like some perennial sunflowers. Perfect for small prairie gardens and meadows in dry to medium soils. Blooms for an extended period in late summer through fall. Birds love the seeds!! 50+ Seeds per order. Thanks for looking.
- Some American Native Wildflower seeds need to go through a cold winter to germinate. This plant is one of them. They do this so the seed won?t sprout in fall, only to have the seedling not make it through a cold winter. I have stratified these seeds to simulate a cold winter(stratification) This raises the germination rate considerably. Thanks for looking!!.
