Item description
Vintage 1937 Arthur Dove Mars Orange Green Print #31 Living American Art 25x18.5
Features:
Gorgeous vintage original color collotype print by Max Jaffe of Vienna, Austria
Artist: Arthur Dove
Title: "Mars, Orange And Green"
Publisher: Living American Art, Inc
Publication Date: 1937
The Finger Lakes region of Geneva, New York is the subject of this biomorphic landscape painting by Arthur Dove. During Dove?s Geneva residency, from 1933 to 1938, he devoted himself to a systematic focus on medium and technique. The title of this picture refers to two specific paint colors the artist favored in the mid-1930s and underlines his emphasis on artistic process over basic landscape elements of trees, hills, a bird, and a cottage?reduced here to vivid, if schematic, motifs.
Collotype printing is considered the finest technique for the reproduction of fine art. Great color saturation is a striking feature of collotypes. However, because of the relatively long time it takes to produce a collotype print and the expense of the process, the craft has slipped into obscurity. Such fine art collotype prints were produced by either Max Jaffe in Vienna or Arthur Jaffe in New York and are very limited
