This is an original, promotional copy, 45 rpm phonograph record by Bob and Sheri entitled, "The Surfer Moon". Songwriter: Brian Wilson, produced by Brian Wilson. Flipside: "Humpty Dumpty". Produced by Brian Wilson. Record label: Safari 101.
Much has been written on this very scarce Brian Wilson- produced 45. I won't repeat what is already known, only that the address on the label is the home of the Wilson family at the time and is now a historic landmark. I assume this was recorded there in their home studio. The matrix numbers in the vinyl are:
Side one, 45-926A and 45097 (with a triangle etched at the beginning of the number).
Side two, 45-926B and 45097-X (with a triangle etched at the beginning of the number).
Condition is visually graded good or better. There are moderate to heavy surface scratches and a scuff. None are deep cuts and they aren't discernable to the touch. It is play graded VG+ to VG++ (seriously). Side 1 plays through just great having some background noise but nothing distracting. Side 2 plays even better. There is no warping, vinyl chipping and there are no forward or repeat skips. Both sides have been photographed to show the light label ring wear. Any question as to the condition of this record, write and I'll try to answer specifics.
I realize this record is costly. Considering the rarity of it and the few number of times it's surfaced in the past 10 years, I'm holding to my price. Most have unsightly writing on them, this one doesn't.
One final note: What I hadn't expected when playing this, is how good the song "The Surfer Moon" is! Written by Brian Wilson, it has the beginnings of the Beach Boys' sound we all know from this brilliant songwriter.
