Wood is 1/2? thick pressed particle board with wood veneer. Works for all types of weapons? swords including katanas and wakizashi and collectables (Kit Rae Avoloch, Ellexdrow and Mithrodin shown), spears, bows, walking sticks, some firearms (check width of stock). Also works well for table top display if secured properly. Comments: This one is decent quality, better than many on the market that are made out of pressed wood. The wood veneer on these is attractive and makes the rack stronger overall. I have one two tier sword rack that's solid wood and I wish there were more like that but this one looks good and acceptable. See width of the horizontal supports, particularly the bottom one that is set flush with back edge for stability.
