SIR ARTHUR PINERO:
A Critical Biography with Letters
By Wilbur Dwight Dunkel.
Chicago, Illinois: University of Chicago Press, (1941).
First edition.
"Published August 1941" statement to the copyright page.
Illustrated with a semi-glossy portrait photograph frontispiece of Arthur Pinero, captioned with his facsimile signature.
The scholar Dunkel, offers a thorough study of the actor and playwright's writing styles, life and cultural influences, views on women, plays, farces, philosophies, letters and manuscript drafts with analysis, and more.
Sir Arthur Wing Pinero, a five year actor in the Henry Irving acting company, became a successful and long-time playwright who had several of his plays adapted to musicals and films including his culturally shocking THE SECOND MRS. TANQUERAY, and THE ENCHANTED COTTAGE adapted to a 1924 silent film and later the heartwarming 1942 film starring Dorothy Maguire, Robert Young, and Herbert Marshall.
Great Gift.
Small, minor surface eraser abrasion to the upper corner of the front end-paper, a touch of rubbing to the upper and lower spine shelf-edges, else near fine in green linen with gilt embossed titles and and decorative borders to the spine; no dust jacket, as issued.
