About Book:
This account
of Charles II?s escape after the battle of Worcester was dictated by the King himself
to Samuel Pepys who recorded it in the cipher in which he kept his famous
Diary. The manuscript was the first of Pepy?s cryptographs to be deciphered. Charles?s adventures as he made for the coast
to find a ship to smuggle him to France make fascinating reading and Maurice
Bartlett has illustrated his story most entertainingly.
