Vintage Religious decanter - cobalt & silver and 50 similar items

This fabulous Vintage cobalt and silver decanter is an absolute wonderful piece of Religious history. It has the story of St Mark and the Lion and the letters that mean " Peace be to you. For God, Christ and the Church" on the front.

According to the legend, an angel in the form of a winged lion would have addressed to the Saint, (shipwrecked in the lagoons), the phrase: «Pax tibi Marce, meus evangelist. Hic requiescet corpus tuum.» (Peace to you, Marco, my evangelist. Here your body will rest).The lion symbolizes the strength of the Evangelist’s word, the wings the spiritual elevation, while the halo is the traditional Christian symbol of holiness. St Mark is associated with the The Coptic Orthodox Church which is one of the most ancient Churches in the world, founded in the first century in Egypt by Saint Mark the Apostle and writer of the second Gospel of the New Testament.

This decanter has silver designs all throughout with some silver wear. IT has its original stopper and as you can see by the rings on the bottom it was not machine manufactured. See photos for more views and size.

We don’t polish these previously owned well loved pieces so we can keep the original patina. We try and photograph all of the pieces next to a ruler so you can see the actual size. Although the pieces we carry are unique and interesting they may have a little wear ( if any) but they sure have a lot of love that came with them when they were first purchased way back when.
