Item description
THE MONKEY WARS:
Poems
by Bruce Weigl
Athens: The University of Georgia Press, (1985).
First edition, first printing, trade paperback issue.
Contains publisher's first printing number code sequence 1 through 5 to the copyright page.
Weigl has garned numerous awards for his poems including
two Pulitzer Prize nominations, two Pushcart Prizes, the Breadloaf Fellowship and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Bronze Star awarded Vietnam War veteran draws from his wealth of experience and his expertise in creativity as a poet, and a professor of English.
This collection of poems has themes of peaceful landscapes that are often violently disrupted.
The poems have narrative stories including that of a soldier in Vietnam during the war, a woman accepting her husband's beatings, a grandfather's abusive rite of passage to his grandson, a steelworker and a crippled dog, and more.
Very tight!
A short mild crimp to front cover at spine, else near fine in glossy stiff-card wraps with titles in black and white to the spine.
A presentable literary first edition.
Octavo; 47 pages.
