Item description
THE HAMPSTEAD POISONINGS
A Mycroft Holmes Adventure
By Glen Petrie
(Essex): Ian Henry Publications/Players Press, (1995).
First edition.
Fine; in a near fine pictorial dust jacket.
"Sherlock Holmes refuses to deal with domestic murders, so his elder
brother, Mycroft, accepts the intellectual challenge posed to them by a
young barrister, Edward Marshall Hall, of a death in Hampstead. Captain
Septimus Hall died of arsenical poisoning and the police have arrested
his housekeeper, Mrs. Diana Tuttle, but, as Mycroft investigates, many
of the strands in the mystery lead to the Vale of Heath Lakeside Spa and
Sporting Rooms nearby. Unfortunately, this establishment is frequented
by influential patrons and Mycroft is summoned to a weekend at
Sandringham where two attempts are made upon his life. To add to the
confusion, Mycroft is also engaged in diplomacy for the government
concerning the succession in a German principality and the murder and
this foreign affair seem to intertwine. The intellect of Mycroft Holmes,
the judicial questioning by Marshall Hall and investigations by a
Russian princess eventually solve the Hampstead poisonings."
