Item description
THE HEART POSSESSED:
A Love Story
By Elizabeth Borton de Trevino
Garden City, New York: Doubleday Company, Inc., 1978.
First edition, first printing.
Contains 1978 date to the title page, and "first edition" statement to the copyright page.
Historically set in San Francisco in 1926, this novel features physician Francis Sullivan who becomes fascinated with a mysterious woman with extreme musical talents, who, though without any money, appears to have come from a wealth and a previous time.
The author, who studied violin at the Boston Conservatory, after gaining a degree from Stanford University in Latin American History, went west to California, married a Mexican, settled in Mexico and became a writer.
She garnered numerous accolades and awards for her children's, young adult, and adult fiction and non-fiction including a Newbery Award for I JUAN DE PAREJA.
Film agency bookplate to the front end-paper, fine in green linen over pale-green boards with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a near fine dust jacket with minute rub-wear to the upper and lower spine edges and with a few tiny edge tears; original $7.95 printed price still intact to the front inner flap.
A rare, nice first edition by de Trevino.
Octavo; 196 pages.
