What Dulcolax is and what it is used for:
Dulcolax is a laxative with local action, which stimulates the peristaltic movements of the intestine and decreases the consistency of the feces. Because it is a laxative that acts in the colon, Dulcolax specifically stimulates the natural process of evacuation from the lower digestive tract. For this reason, Dulcolax does not alter the digestion or absorption of calories or essential nutrients in the small intestine.
Dulcolax is used:
- in patients with constipation.
- for the preparation of medical investigations, before and after operations and diseases that require defecation / facilitating the evacuation of faeces.
The recommended dose is:
For constipation:
- Adults: Take 1-2 gastro-resistant tablets (5-10 mg bisacodil) per day. Start with 1 tablet. The dose can be adjusted up to a maximum dose of 2 tablets to produce regular stools. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 2 dragees.
- Children 2 to 10 years of age: Take 1 gastro-resistant tablet (5 mg bisacodil) a day. You should not take Dulcolax in children 10 years of age or younger unless your child's doctor recommends it.
Administration method
Dragees should be taken in the evening to have intestinal activity the next morning. They should be swallowed whole with an adequate amount of liquid (but not milk). Gastro-resistant tablets should not be given with products that reduce the acidity of the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as milk, antacids, or proton pump inhibitors, to prevent premature dissolution of the enteric lining.
