Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1960's college Spring Break comedy/drama romance, WHERE THE BOYS ARE, released in 1961 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Henry Levin. Based on the novel by Glendon Swarthout, four very different college girls drive to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for spring break and seek out various adventures and romance for themselves. The cast includes Dolores Hart, George Hamilton, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Hutton, Barbara Nichols, Paula Prentiss, Chill Wills, Frank Gorshin, and Connie Francis.
As indicated in the center of the bottom border, this is lobby card #4 from the set of 8 cards. The image depicts Angie (Connie Francis) singing a song with the bass player (Frank Gorshin). The tagline beneath the image reads: "Connie Francis, in her first film role, uses a song to capture her man, Basil, the near-sighted base [sp.] player (Frank Gorshin)). It is unrestored in very good- condition with chips in the top border and two torn pinholes; creases on the top and bottom right corners; staple holes and/or pinholes in the bottom corners; and some small scratches in the top right and near bottom right corner of the image area and on the bottom of Gorshin's leg that extends towards the drum. The color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
The title song, sung by Connie Francis, reached #4 on the pop charts, and marked Connie's film debut (she had done earlier voice work / singing in Jamboree! (1957) and Rock Rock Rock! (1956) but did not appear on-screen). It also marked the film debut of Paula Prentiss. Dolores Hart left Hollywood a few years after this movie was released and became a Benedictine nun, and has been a Mother Superior for many years. Dolores Hart, Paula Prentiss, and Connie Francis (Merritt, Tuggle, and Angie) were born in the same year. They were 22 years old at the time of filming. Yvette Mimieux (Melanie) is only three years younger than the others and was 19 during filming. |
