This is a 2001 re-make of the original version. The tape is nice and clean and has a store branded foil security sticker on the left endcap assuring you of first generation quality.

Pre-viewed for quality and plays fine. Goodtimes video saw fit to release this in the superior SP mode. They usually would put most of their stuff out in cheaper EP & LP modes that consume less tape.

The full screen picture is perfect for old school tube TVs as the image will fill your square frame. This is also given the deluxe packaging treatment as well with the oversized clamshell vacuform case. The title and book are glitter stamped on the cover, in case you can't tell by the photograph.

An ancient book opens the doorway to a magical world that leads to an unlikely hero on a quest to save the land of Fantasia from the evil Nothing. When 12-year-old Bastian stumbles upon a mysterious book in a curious bookshop he is forever changed. Within its pages Bastian is swept into a world where dragons fly, a dark city floats and an ivory tower stretches to the sky.

There is two stories going on here, one in the real world and one in Fantasia that coincide and parallel each other. It is up to Bastian and his Fantasian avatar, Atreyu, to battle demon forces to save the Childlike Empress and in turn...the existence of imagination.

This appears to be a well made Canadian production on par with something like the Hallmark channel would do. A classy treatment with good special effects. Check out this first one in the series, 'the Begining', to see if you want to seek out the rest.

Out Of Print (OOP) in all formats and no longer being manufactured.
