This is the fifth of six titles in the Girl Scouts Mystery Series. The Scouts were contemporaries of Nancy Drew, but much less remembered and more scarce in today's market (this and the last title being harder to find than the first four). Fairfax was a Girl Scout leader who lived in Mississippi, which is the setting of the series. (Note: References to and the speech of African-Americans in this series is very stereotyped and may be offensive to some readers.) Illustrated end papers and Frontispiece by Margaret Ayer. I take this copy for a first edition because it is listed last of five titles on the copyright page. The dust jacket is missing. Modest fraying on cover corners and spine ends; some spotting on the spine and back cover; the spine is slightly faded; a few page corner creases. Secure binding and no markings noted in book; normal yellowing of pages, mostly in margins.
