Product description: The Norman Luboff Choir, one of the leading choral groups of the 1950s, 60s and 70s recorded more than seventy-five albums. The holiday albums Songs of Christmas (1956) and Christmas with the Norman Luboff Choir (1964) were perennial bestsellers for years. They also released a series of albums on Columbia that drew on a variety of genres such as Calypso, Broadway, popular, Caribbean & island music, and songs of the Cowboys besides Christmas favorites. Luboff and his choir won the 1961 Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Chorus. Luboff & his chorus continued touring & recording right up to his death in 1987. This 1955 offering of Classic Cowboy songs was issued at the beginning of the 1950s-60s cowboy craze when Gene, Roy, Hoppy & the Lone Ranger roamed the TV range along with lesser-lights such as Lash LaRue, Range Rider, Red Ryder, Wild Bill Hickok, Tex Ritter & others that followed. The album is a strong offering with solid arrangements paired with terrific singing that brings the listener back to that golden age. Songlist includes: BUY ME NOT ON THE LONE PRAIRE / THE OLD CHISHOLM TRAIL / RED RIVER VALLEY / WHOOPIE TI YI YO / DONEY GAL / TUMBLING TUMBLEWEED / POOR LONESOME COWBOY / COLORADO TRAIL / I RIDE AN OLD PAINT / NIGHT HERDING SONG / COOL WATER / STREETS OF LAREDO / HOME ON THE RANGE.
