Personnel: Petula Clark (vocals).Only one of many budget-price Petula Clark compilations to feature recent re-recordings of her classic Tony Hatch-produced hits from the '60s, GOLDEN HITS is at best a curiosity for fans. The songs are as delightful as ever, and Clark's voice is still remarkable, but the arrangements pale in comparison to Hatch's Spectoresque embellishments.Because Clark has re-recorded these songs more than once, fans looking for the original hits (on Vogue in Europe, Pye in the UK, and Warner Brothers in the US) should look for compilations that stress that they contain the original recordings, such as 1999's DOWNTOWN on the Buddha label.
