is the subject of the 2017 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate, featuring a man with a young girl feeding swans at the edge of a lake. “The Lakes” are a series of three rectangular lakes that curve around the western margin of Copenhagen, forming one of the most distinctive features of the city's topography. The Lake Pavilion (in the background) was built for the capital’s Skating Association in 1894.
The design was created by Allan Therkelsen and is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. The cup is just over 2 1/2 inches high by just over 2 1/2 inches in diameter (excluding the handle); and holds approximately 5 ounces (15 cl). The saucer is approximately 5 3/4 inches in diameter. Appropriately marked on the bottom of each piece, including the three wavy line trademark of Royal Copenhagen. The series ran from 1979 to 2019, with 2019 being the last year the Christmas Cups and Saucers were made.
