Shall We Dance? is a 2004 romantic comedy about a middle-aged lawyer who takes up ballroom dancing lessons to find a spark in his life:

Plot

John Clark (Richard Gere) is a bored and unfulfilled estate lawyer in Chicago who notices a beautiful woman (Jennifer Lopez) in a dance studio window on his commute home. He impulsively signs up for lessons to meet her and finds a new passion in his life. However, he keeps his dancing a secret from his wife, Beverly (Susan Sarandon), who becomes suspicious of his frequent absences.

Inspiration

Shall We Dance? is a remake of the 1996 Japanese romantic comedy-drama film of the same name, directed by Masayuki Suo. The title refers to the song "Shall We Dance?" from The King and I by Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Some say the movie shows viewers the characters' longing and draws them in to sharing those feelings. Others say the music and dancing are sublime
