Bronze - old lost wax casting of copper/tin alloy

The shield is 7” x 13” and can be placed in either hand

He is missing something from one hand, a spear perhaps.

28 pounds

No damage - intact and structurally sounds. 

Stands on his own. 

Exhibits signs of wear appropriate with age and use - scuffs and dings with patina.

Displays the anticipated minute signs - known as “blow holes” typical of the early lost wax casting process. 

Very nice dark chocolate patina is beautifully accentuated with generous brassy highlights.

I have no idea of the age of this piece. I am presenting the description of the piece just as described when I purchased it at auction in 2006.
