Dionysos was the son of chief god Zeus and king's daughter Semele. He made many journeys. Everywhere he went, he planted vines and taught people all about wine culture. On his travels, Dionysos was accompanied by satyrs (demons) and "maenads" or "bacchantes": possessed women who indulged in ecstasy.
