Vintage Wood Carvings by Haitian Artist Andre Decembre - Homme et Femme - Man and Woman

This is a beautiful set of vintage wood carvings by Haitian artist Andre Decembre. The set includes a man and woman carved from wood. The figures are heavy and have an afrocentric African figure busthead. Both figures have carved signatures on the underside of the bases “A. Decembre”. The set is from the 1970s.

André Decembre born in Cap-Haitien. After primary school and high school at Lycee Philippe Guerrier he began sculpting with the legendary Haitian master Georges Laratte. He is one of Haiti's leading master wood carvers. His carvings are rare.

Dimensions: Female Head = 7 ¾”H x 3 ½”W x 5”D approx. Male Head = 7 ¾”H x 4 ¼”W x 5”D approx.

Condition: The set is in excellent condition with only a small chip located on the back of the man’s ear. The last picture shows this minuscule damage.
