Aptenia 'Baby Sun Rose' is a creeping succulent from the ice plant family. It has fleshy succulent heart shaped leaves on trailing vines (hence the Latin name 'cordifolia'). Can be grown indoors or outside. Perfect in containers, hanging baskets, rock gardens or as ground cover. It forms solid flat mats with stems reaching up to 2 feet long. Most of the year it produces bright purple flowers that are open only during daytime (they close for the night) and attract butterflies to the garden. Has proven a very reliable ground cover for sunny areas with limited irrigation, even in poor soils. Will smother weeds with a dense carpet, climb up chain link and drape over retaining walls. Can easily be cut back from areas not wanted.
